The story starts with Genie at her home in Deptford, South London. Genie is an interesting character with a love for travel and other cultures, a girl after my own heart.
Every inch of her flat is covered in memorabilia that she has collected from her travels. Traditional clothing from Pakistan, dolls from Japan, books from Turkmenistan, just to mention a couple.
Genie taught me to look at the world from multiple angles, question everything and most of all, be intrigued by different cultures.
After giving me the garden tour Avril was laughing at how big her corgettes where this year.
After spending a few hours with Avril it was apparent she spent a great deal of time at the back of her garden tending to her veggies.
portrait of Avril in the reflection of one of her silk screen paintings.
Rosemary and Jim sit in their front room.
Frances visits her local convenience store.
Dominique walks to her favourite gardens at The Horniman Museum. Forest Hill, South London.
Grace and Dave sit on their balcony as the warm summer sun shines.
Dave was proudly showing me the models of the busses he used to drive, he took great pride in this job.
Dave was a well established magician. He told me of the time he went to perform for children in the local hospital. Dave getting quite upset, he wiped his eyes as he looked up towards the celling, as if to stop the tears.
June is a natural born care giver. Despite her wonderful age, we wont reveal that here, she is always thinking of other. I joined her at her local church hall as she tended to the groups needs.
Capturing a portrait of June was difficult, she was always up and about. I turn my back and she’s wondered off to the kitchen again.
For June, the Church played a large role in her life.
Bill is a quiet man, only speaking when it is absolutely necessary. During my time in his home in south London he spoke to me about the times of driving trains for Transport of London.
